By: Angelo BiondoWar and politics goes together like snow tires in Hawaii. The ‘War on Terror’ has been tough but beatable up ‘til now. General McChrystal has requested 40,000 more troops to finish off the remaining remnants of the Taliban in Afghanistan who have gotten stronger in the last year. What should Obama do? Is this really a question? Does Mr. Obama have a choice? Not only should there be no hesitation in honoring General McChrystal’s request, but the troops requested by him should have already completed training and ready for deployment.
Instead, Congress has diverted training funds to ‘earmark’ projects and President Obama confers with his political civilian advisors who have never been in a war like situation. We are at war, not contemplating or about to enter into – but in a war with terrorist insurgents bent on our destruction. We were told at the start that Al Qaeda and the Taliban were well organized, ten’s of thousands strong, and had operatives all over the world and would take many years defeat. We were told we had to be prepared to finish once started this war that started on September, 11, 2001 when an un-uniformed clandestine enemy had several operatives take over civilian jumbo jets and crash them into un-suspecting targets in the U.S. killing over 3000 un-armed innocent citizens who had done nothing to provoke this jihad. Anyone who thought this would be over in weeks or months was and is delusional.
Let me remind you that on that day, we (citizens of the United States) vowed we would hunt down and destroy the perpetrators of this horrible deed. We are committed to follow this promise through to the bitter end. We owe this not only to those who died that day, but also to those who fought and died on behalf of the victims of 9/11, and died fighting for our liberty. We are committed to support the military personnel we have placed in harm’s way on the battlefield who continue fighting this battle for us fortunate to enjoy the comforts of home and remain relatively safe while they fight so we can enjoy the peace and protest them being there. But they fight on enemy ground so we don’t have to fight them on home ground.
So far – thanks to our military fighting and dying abroad, and the successful efforts of the various police agencies across the nation, the enemy has been held at bay. Their sleeper cells wait patiently for us to drop our guard so they can move and strike again. They look forward to taking control of our lives, but before they can take control here, they need to take control in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq. Should Mr. Obama fail to react to General McChrystal’s request in time, the insurgent’s chances not only improve immensely – but we will also lose the lives of many more troops. If McChrystal’s request goes un-answered he will be forced to face the terrorist insurgents along the Afghanistan-Pakistani border without the requested troops and remain greatly out-numbered.
Knowing the importance the Pakistani Military has launched an offensive committing thousands of Pakistani troops to stop the insurgents currently attempting to overtake control of Pakistan. Should the insurgents win this battle, the Pakistan nuclear arsenal is in jeopardy and should the insurgents get their hands on them, I don’t think I have to spell out the consequences. The big question is, ‘Is the Pakistani army strong enough to defeat the surge of the insurgents on their own?’ Or, ‘Do they need the help of their allies in order to do so?’
News coming from the Whitehouse is that the elections in Afghanistan need to be resolved before President Obama can make a decision as to whether to honor General McChrystal’s request. Must we remind Mr. Obama that our fight is with the insurgents who mean to harm us and our way of life. The Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and the possible improprieties surrounding the elections in Afghanistan should not deter from sending additional troops to ensure the safety of those on the front lines. The need for an honest election in Afghanistan is important and any improprieties that may exist need to be dealt with and should be, but it should not interfere with nor be used as an excuse to avoid sending the needed manpower Genera McChrystal has requested. If it is found that President Karzai is in any way involved in improprieties or a corrupt government, then he should be removed from power and replaced by the good citizens of Afghanistan.
Those assuming this fight is only with ‘Al Qaeda’ or the ‘Taliban’, should consider the fact that Iran has clandestinely supplied both manpower and weapons to kill American and U.N. troops fighting in Iraq. And, to think that North Korea, Syria, and Hamas are not involved is simply idiotic.
Now is no time for indecisiveness, politics, or consultation with politicians inexperienced in such matters. For Mr. Obama to be indecisive, in times like this shows his inexperience and places not only our troops in jeopardy but our allies as well. To question the wisdom of highly decorated experienced career soldiers like General McChrystal[2[, or his boss General Petraius[3], and take the advise of politicians who lack military experience in unconscionable.
Wikipedia: General David Howell Petraeus, USA (born November 7, 1952) is the 10th and current Commander, U.S. Central Command. Petraeus previously served as Commanding General, Multi-National Force - Iraq (MNF-I) from January 26, 2007 to September 16, 2008.[1] As Commander of MNF-I, Petraeus oversaw all coalition forces in Iraq.[2][3] Petraeus was the General George C. Marshall Award winner as the top graduate of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College—class of 1983.[4] He subsequently earned a M.P.A. degree (1985) and a Ph.D. degree (1987) in International Relations from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He later served as Assistant Professor of International Relations at the U.S. Military Academy and also completed a fellowship at Georgetown University. He has a BS from the U.S. Military Academy—class of 1974—from which he graduated as a distinguished cadet (top 5% of his class). Wikipedia: General Stanley A. McChrystal, USA (born August 14, 1954)[1] is the current Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan (USFOR-A).[2] He previously served as Director, Joint Staff from August 2008 to June 2009 and as Commander, Joint Special Operations Command from 2003 to 2008, where he was credited with the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, but also criticized for his role in the investigation of the Pat Tillman friendly fire incident.[3] He assumed his current assignment on June 15, 2009. His father was Major General Herbert McChrystal. He was the fourth child in a family of five boys and a girl, all of whom would serve or marry into the military. McChrystal has a wife and grown son.[4]
Those who fight this ‘jihad’ against us are not looking to just defeat us; they are dedicated to stripping us of our rights, our liberties, ‘freedom of speech and religion’, freedoms we have always cherished and taken for granite. They believe women are subservient, and inferior to men, and that homosexuals should be put to death.
Geert Wilders a representative in the Dutch Parliament recently spoke in New York City and has been featured on several TV news stations has spoken on this subject and is dedicated to liberty and a free world. What he has to say in this ‘YouTube’ video is chilling, and is sure to hit a nerve:
The need to win the war on ‘TERROR’ can be made no clearer, as is the need for all God fearing people to ban together and support our troops,
The enemy has shown they have the patience and fortitude and we are their main objective. We must show them we not only have the patience and fortitude to protect our liberties, but the strength and determination as well.
If you have been following the news lately, then you have seen the news reports of the millions of dollars Congress has slipped in to the military budget bills in the form of ‘ear-mark’ (pork-barrel) spending projects that have nothing to do with the war on terror. These ‘pork-barrel’ projects take millions of dollars away from our military and divert them to the politicians favorite home projects, ie: $20,000,000.00 for the Ted Kennedy memorial library, proposed by ‘John Kerry’ (D-MA), etc.
It is time to tell Congress and President Obama to stop playing politics with our military and send General McChrystal the troops he has requested to get the job done. We have lost more American lives in Afghanistan and Iraq in the last 10 months then since the war was started in 2002.
